To provide a deeper look into Monetization Integrity at TikTok, we spoke with team members Simon O'Regan (Global Head of MI Services), Melissa Kong (Risk Investigation Management), and Michael Awotedu (Regional Head of Product & Process, North America) about their experience and growth so far.

Core Quality: Desire to Solve Hard Problems
The integrity space is evolving rapidly, and the ability to trust paid content has never been more important. As the boundaries between paid and organic content become less rigid, bad actors have a growing number of opportunities to harm users.
"User demands for authenticity and safety from brands and platforms are rising," Simon explains. "Many of the Integrity questions resulting from emerging technology trends have yet to be asked, let alone answered. We're interested in people who can look these problems squarely in the eye and work relentlessly to solve them."
In taking on these challenges at the cutting-edge of the industry, the MI team must move fast to stay ahead of the curve. As Michael describes, "the pace here is ultra-fast, but there's still incredible dedication and focus on the task at hand. Seeing our team execute quickly and with such a high quality has been motivating."

Challenges and Growth
Working at TikTok often means adapting quickly and getting out of your comfort zone, especially when it comes to solving safety issues for users and businesses on TikTok.
Melissa, who deals with high-risk advertisements as part of the Risk Investigation Management Team, says: "As one of the first MI team members in Asia, I can say that we've embraced change and approached work with an entrepreneurial spirit from day one. We're encouraged to drive our own development and seize the opportunities we want to pursue!"
Michael agrees with this sentiment. "Coming from a large social media company, I joined TikTok for the chance get uncomfortable again and scratch the itch to try something new. TikTok is growing at an unprecedented rate, so the amount that you learn (and accomplish) in just a few months is hard to find anywhere else."
This growth, however, doesn’t come without hard work. Both Melissa and Michael stress the importance of time management and being flexible with your schedule while working across timezones. "Being a global company is what makes TikTok so fantastic," Melissa says. "But this also means taking charge of your own schedule and being smart with your planning."

Team Culture
Although Michael, Melissa, and Simon work in different corners of the globe, they all have similar things to say about the culture on the MI team.
After onboarding remotely just five months ago, Michael highlights how much support he's received as a new joiner. “People are always willing to set aside time for you," he says. "No matter when you joined or where you are, teammates are open and flexible in supporting one another."
In working together, everyone's goal is to make a positive impact on the TikTok community. "We're fueled by a common goal to keep TikTok safe and protect users from harm," Melissa explains. "Whether it's forming processes for an improved advertiser experience or creating new measures to protect against high-risk advertisements, our actions have global impact."
Simon echoes this sentiment while touching on the diversity of the team. "Though prior experience in Integrity is important, our team includes people from a wide range of backgrounds," he says. "What we have in common is the desire to tackle hard, important problems."
