TikTok Japan held a workshop and seminar session in conjunction with Venture Cafe Tokyo on the June 20th. Venture Cafe is a community hailing from Boston that aims to connect people to birth innovation for society. At the event, Isom Winton from our Agency Partnerships team spoke about user generated contents, TikTok's advertising business, and ended it off with a hands-on TikTok workshop to understand the various trending hashtags and campaigns.

TikTok's specialty lies on the high level of user engagement.
The first time a user opens the app, they spend roughly 300 seconds scrolling through the app and looking at the various hashtags and trending contents. 66% of current users have posted at least a video, while 91% have interacted with the contents of others' videos either through likes or comments.
In Japan, the trend on TikTok has evolve from dance into a wide variety of contents, with the themes of pets, sports, travel, and how-to videos.

Although TikTok has only been in Japan for two years, the platform is monetizing its business by providing advertising solutions. This is based on 4 types of advertisements- Take Over Ad, Infeed Ad, #Tag Challenge, and Stamps. A Take Over Ad is the first ad that jumps onto the screen when the app is first opened. The Infeed Ad is a 15 second fullscreen video allows for the brand to reach out to users and increase understanding of their product. Amongst these, the third option, Hashtag Challenge, is the best known product from TikTok. This is where companies can choose a theme (also known as a #tag), and encourage users to post under the hashtag, which increases engagement with the brand through the platform. The fourth are Stickers, where an original sticker could be made together with TikTok in order for users to use these stamps while taking TikTok videos, for exposure within the app's user base.

TikTok's session was followed by sessions that focused on kickstarting one's startup in Japan, and another on diversity and inclusion in the workplace, which ended off the night.
A huge thank you to Venture Cafe for giving TikTok the time to share our expertise and insights about our social platform, and for hosting us for the night.
Join us at our next event, and meet the spirit of this energetic crew, embodied in this TikTok video here.
